Wet Winter Woes

Healthy Winter Warmer

Looks like Mother Nature's decided to kick off the chilly season with a splash! Brace yourselves for a soggy Winter with a hint of warmth, which might just keep you from frolicking outside in the fresh air.

To dodge those winter blues, focus on staying active and munching on nutritious goodies. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise daily, be it indoors or outdoors, and ensure your food intake consists of a balanced diet full of fruits, veggies, and healthy proteins.

Exercise:

  • Stay active: Regular physical activity is like a magic potion that boosts energy, fights off the winter grumps, and keeps you in shape.

  • Choose activities you enjoy: Whether you're into walking, cycling, swimming, or rocking an indoor workout, pick something that tickles your fancy.

  • Dress warmly: When venturing outdoors, layer up like an onion to stay toasty and comfy, preparing for slightly warmer days than our usual Winters.

  • Make it a routine: Set a regular workout schedule and recruit a buddy to help keep you on track.

Meals:

  • Focus on nourishing foods: Pack your meals with fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains.

  • Warm up with soups and stews: Soups and stews are like a cozy blanket in a bowl, perfect for staying snug during winter.

  • Enjoy healthy comfort foods: Swap out the naughty comfort foods for healthier delights that still hit the spot, like veggie soup with whole-grain bread.

  • Stay hydrated: Keep the fluids flowing with plenty of water and warm drinks like tea or herbal infusions.

  • Be mindful of portion sizes: Enjoy those holiday feasts and parties, but keep an eye on portion sizes and practice mindful munching.

  • Consider Vitamin D: With less sunlight in winter, think about adding vitamin D-rich foods or supplements to your diet.

    • Foods rich in vitamin D include fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and sardines, as well as egg yolks, liver, and fortified foods like milk, cereal, and orange juice. Mushrooms are also a good source, especially those exposed to ultraviolet light.

Stay active, eat well and stay healthy this Winter!
